Get ready for a work zone near mile marker 228 of Interstate 44 near Sullivan, MO. Between February and November 2010, bridges that carry east and westbound traffic will be improved. In order to complete the work quickly and safely, traffic patterns must shift.
Why Does Interstate 44 at Winsel Creek Need Improvement?
The substructure of the westbound I-44 bridge needs to be replaced. The eastbound I-44 bridge deck needs to be replaced.
How Will Traffic be Impacted While Construction is Under Way?
During the entire construction project, westbound I-44 traffic will use the north service road as a detour route over Winsel Creek. Motorists will then resume using westbound Interstate 44.
During the first months of the project, eastbound traffic will detour over the existing westbound bridge across the creek as the old eastbound bridge deck is replaced. Once over the creek, traffic will move back onto the normal eastbound lanes. When the eastbound bridge deck is finished, eastbound traffic will return to its normal footprint.
The westbound bridge repair comes next. During this phase, westbound traffic will continue to use the north service road as a detour.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Interstate 44 at all times, except for off-peak hour closures when important construction activities are occurring. All work will take place during daytime hours with no nighttime work to occur at this location.
When Will Construction Take Place?
Construction will begin in early February 2010 and should be complete in October 2010.
